Cooperative Program
Because you give...
What you do
In short, you do missions.
Cooperative Program giving enables every church member to support mission efforts and keep those people doing mission work in the mission field and out of a fundraising role. The BGCT Cooperative Program supports missions/evangelism in Texas and around the world; Christian education through churches and the 23 Texas Baptist Institutions (link to Institutional Ministries page); and compassionate advocacy by speaking for those who do not have a voice.
The money you give, feeds hungry, starts churches, funds missionaries and mission projects in Texas and around the world, provides scholarships for ministerial students, reaches people in prison, takes a message of hope to the hopeless, provides chaplains in Texas hospitals, clothes the needy and so much more. In essence, the Cooperative Program of the BGCT puts God’s Word to work.
How you work together
The Cooperative Program of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is a collective funding system that exists to carry out missions on a large scale. Just as one Christian alone cannot accomplish God’s mandate to reach the world, neither can one church do all that is asked of a body of believers. The task before us demands cooperation.
The money given by each church is combined and distributed as the budget approved by Texas Baptist churches indicates (see “Where your money goes”) or the individual church individual designation. Because you give, we can all do more. The BGCT Cooperative Program is missions funding. Each participating church sends money to the BGCT for distribution to ministries in Texas and beyond.
The BGCT Adopted Budget calls for each church’s gifts to be divided 79% for Texas ministries and 21% for worldwide ministries. A large portion funds missions in Texas because the BGCT has the broadest, most far-reaching network of state Baptist ministries and institutions in the nation. Each church, however, chooses its own distribution percentages and its own worldwide ministry partner – the Southern Baptist Convention, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, or WorldconneX and the Baptist World Alliance.
By combining our money and efforts, we can reach the world for Christ in ways that no individual church, regardless of size, could do alone.
Where your money goes
The money you give to your church does the missions and ministries of your church as well as the missions and ministries of the group of churches known as the BGCT. What these dollars fund and where they go are represented here in this pie chart. More information on each specific ministry can be found by clicking the different sections of the chart.
In 2008, BGCT partnering churches also gave $30,983,000 to SBC worldwide and national mission efforts and gave $2,063,913 to CBF worldwide and national mission efforts. Together these gifts allow thousands of missionaries to stay busy reaching people for Christ in their mission field without having to stop witnessing to raise money.
