Services

The BGCT offers confidential assessment, counseling and referral services for ministers and their families. Initial assessment will be provided by phone, in order to provide referral to one of the more than 100 approved professionals across Texas. Limited funds are available to subsidize sessions for short-term treatment. BGCT provides a counseling subsidy for qualified candidates. Independent Contractor Dan McGee Associates, Inc. (DMA) is responsible for these counseling and psychological services.

DMA believes in the value ministers have historically brought to the world in times of crises. There is something called “fit” between counselor and client. DMA has pledged to offer counseling services that from the first call through the last counseling session the quality of care is both highly professional and distinctively Christian.

Services include a confidential intake session by phone and a leadership assessment online when necessary. Referrals, as needed, are made to qualified professionals in the Approved Professional Network.

The Process

BGCT-affiliated ministers and family members interested in counseling should call Dan McGee Associates, Inc. at 817-543-3790, 800-388-2005 or inquire by email at info@danmcgeeassociates.com. Once the need for counseling has been established, our staff will collect non-clinical information and schedule a phone session with Dr. Dan McGee. In this confidential intake session (a brief interview) Dr. McGee will attempt to identify the need and type of specialty required for treatment. He will work with the minister/spouse to match the need with the expertise of the network counselor. Location of services will be considered as well as possible financial implications.

As an outside contractor DMA is committed to protect the privacy and confidentiality of the minister from the first call through the last counseling session. Subsidy funds will be allocated as available. When subsidy funds are used, DMA invoices BGCT without any identifying information of the minister or family member on the statement, and the payment is made by the BGCT Subsidy Fund directly to the counselor without knowledge of the identity of the client. A DMA Satisfaction Survey is sent to the client following treatment to determine the effectiveness of the service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. How many times can the client use the subsidy program?
    • a. The subsidy approval expires 120 days after approval. If all approved subsidy has not been utilized within 120 days the client will need to reapply. If the counselor determines a need for additional counseling beyond the original subsidy, they will contact DMA for consideration for an extension.
    • b. Subsidy is available per family, not per individual.
    • c. The client is not eligible to reapply for subsidy until 12 months following his/her last approved session.
    • d. Subsidy amounts as well as number of sessions approved may change from one approval to another due to availability of subsidy funds.
  • 2. If a client has already been seeing a counselor, can the subsidy program help pay for those sessions?

  • 4. What if the client doesn't feel comfortable with his/her counselor?
    • a. All clients are encouraged to contact us for placement with another counselor if for any reason they do not feel comfortable or satisfied with their counselor.
