Win Oakes dies

BURLESON – Longtime Baptist General Convention of Texas staff member Win Oakes died Aug. 6 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 76.

 

Oakes worked with ministers of missions and helped facilitate church starts through the BGCT from 1984-1997. During his tenure, he helped start more than 100 congregations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

 

After retiring, he became the liaison for the BGCT in its partnership with the Minnesota Wisconsin Baptist Convention. He also served as the volunteer minister of missions for First Baptist Church in Burleson.

 

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Burleson on Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. A time to visit with family will be held immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, Oakes requested a designated love gift to church development for BGCT/Minnesota- Wisconsin partnership, or to Community Hospice of Texas.

 

He is survived by his wife Martha, two sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
